Farmers For a Fair Deal Praises Progress on 45Z, Urges Clarity to Support Midwest Farmers
Farmers For a Fair Deal welcomes the Administration’s release of long-awaited guidance on the 45Z Clean Fuel Production Credit. This proposal is an important step toward giving Midwest farmers and rural producers the certainty they need to plan, invest, and grow.
We’re encouraged that Treasury listened to farmers and rural stakeholders throughout this process, and recognized that agriculture and energy policy must work together. The rule makes meaningful progress toward aligning clean-energy investment with the communities producing the fuel, which is essential to supporting rural jobs and economic growth across the Midwest.
A few technical details still need clarification, especially around “placed in service” language that could unintentionally leave rural electric generators out. Clarifying this would reduce uncertainty for rural producers.
We look forward to continuing to engage as the rule is finalized to ensure 45Z delivers real investment, real jobs, and real opportunity for Midwest farmers and rural communities.
